Sodium metabisulphite is used to neutralize regular bleach that can stay in fabric even after rinsing. After bleaching, soaking in a solution of metabisulphite prevents the deterioration of fibers by bringing the pH back to neutral.
To neutralize bleach use 15g (3 tsp) Sodium Metabisulphite to 4 litres (1 gallon) of water.
