Natural Indigo - In Chips from the Living Blue Project
These indigo chips are an extract from Indigofera tinctoria grown and harvested by the Living Blue project in Bangladesh. Living Blue is a social enterprise of Nijera Cottage and Village Industries Pvt. Ltd’., designed to help alleviate poverty through artisan training and small scale farmer production of indigo. Maiwa has been working with Living Blue since 2011.
Living Blue indigo is packaged in different sizes than our regular indigo and is priced to support the Living Blue project. Before dyeing the chips need to be ground into a powder.
Natural indigo powder is an extract prepared from Indigofera tinctoria. Indigo is the legendary source of colourfast blues and its ability to produce a wide range of shades has made it the most successful dye plant ever known. Indigo can give clear blues that range from the tint of a pale sky to a deep navy that is almost black.
